Just beyond a non glassy sea of Indian Ocean from Dar es salaam is a beautiful Island called Zanzibar. Zanzibar is one of the best touristic attraction in Tanzania, very historic and more than 99 percent of Zanzibar's population are Muslim. A friend of mine and I planned to go to Zanzibar two days before the journey. The purpose was to evangelize and give out literature. We weren’t sure how much was the fare but as we booked the tickets on the day of travel, we just had the exact fare for the journey but the money for the fare i wanted to use it few days back but God knew I would need it to do His work so He told me not to use it. As we left the booking office I knew God had planned this trip. 'As-salamu alaykum' is a first greeting we heard in our ears as me and my friend Farida boarded a ferry to Zanzibar on a Wednesday Morning of 1st of April 2015. The journey was about one and half hour long. God opened the first opportunity inside the boat. There was a Tanzanian man who sat besides us and as we talked to him and got to know him better we were able to evangelize to him.
Dressed as the native of the island, it gave us a room to be just like them and it gave them comfortability to talk to us. The idea of dressing came from watching a testimony from Esmie Branner "Beyond the Veil of Darkness" https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZlaXoFqm_nI. A very moving and powerful testimony on how to stay faithful to God and the greatness and the goodness of the God we serve. The first place we entered was the central museum and there was a lot informations about historic events that happened in the past. One of them was how Britain played a big role on abolishing Arab slave trade in the 19th century and helped to fight for independence in 1964. As I grew up i never knew this and took the freedom i have for granted while our fathers struggled and were enslaved. Relating this to our spiritual lives, when our first parents Adam and Eve ate of the forbidden tree, we became slaves of satan but Jesus came to die for us and to free us from the great deceiver’s bondage (Romans 6:18 : You have been set free from sin and have become slaves to righteousness, verse 22; But now that you have been set free from sin and have become slaves of God, the benefit you reap leads to holiness, and the result is eternal life).
We didn’t leave the people in the museum empty handed. We gave them some leaflets that were filled with good news about Jesus and the gospel. As we passed one of the streets, there were men sitting in the corridor, they were observing us from a distance, when we got closer to them, they asked us what we were giving out. We gave them the leaflets and left hastily because it’s wasn’t safe giving out Christian materials in an Islamic area but also dressed like Muslim’s. God being our leader, He guided us from one street to another and one shop to another, giving out literature. Praise be to God. Brethen lets continue to labour with Christ and spread the good news that Jesus is coming very soon. '' Go to all nations, He bade them. Go to the farthest part of the habitable globe and be assured that My presence will be with you even there. Labor in faith and confidence; for the time will never come when I will forsake you. I will be with you always, helping you to perform your duty, guiding, comforting, sanctifying, sustaining you, giving you success in speaking words that shall draw the attention of others to heaven. '' AA 29.1 Lets pray for those who we reached out that The Holy Spirit may trouble their hearts to read the literature and come to know our loving saviour Jesus Christ. Amen.
